Sport psychologists are registered psychologists who have undertaken additional specialised training, beyond that required for registration as a psychologist. Those who complete this training are eligible for membership of the Australian Psychological Society's (APS) College of Sport Psychologists.
There are around 50 full members of the Australian Psychological Society's College of Sport Psychologists. Full membership of the College requires a minimum of six years of university training, plus one year of subsequent supervised practical experience in sport psychology.
Members of the College of Sport Psychologists are required to uphold specific standards of ethical and professional practice, and to maintain and update their skills through continuous professional development.
